These lunchtime events bring people from all backgrounds together to discuss a selected poem or short story over sandwiches, tea and cake. You give us your thoughts, we give you food.
We will be announcing dates for Food for Thought events in 2009 soon.
Please email events@thereader.org.uk if you would like to be added to our mailing list.
Food for Thought events offers a chance to experience the work of The Reader Organisation at first hand and find out more about our aim to bring about a Reading Revolution. It is also an opportunity to meet people from across the University of Liverpool and from a wide range of local arts, health, regeneration and cultural organisations - a chance to exchange ideas, make new links, and take part in a uniquely enjoyable and stimulating lunch-break.
Food for Thought, Friday 7th November 2008
What do you get from books that nothing else can give you? Over a buffet lunch, we read poems and discussed the special offer that books hold in a digital age. Diners were split on their thoughts about the tactile nature of books - the physical object, how they like to hold and keep them - in comparison with new technology (ebooks, online reading) and an engaging debate ensued It seemed that most of the people in the room disliked the idea of the physical book disappearing entirely but see how we have to move with new technology to keep people reading.
